10 Ways to MAXIMIZE Your Cleanse.

Let me first begin by saying that I FEEL INCREDIBLE. I feel FANTASTIC!

I bounced out of bed this morning happy and energized. I had my first great interval/circuit training workout this morning since beginning my detox. I burned through it like a mad woman. I felt GREAT. And yesterday was my first allergy free run. I quit taking allergy meds last Thursday and I am completely and totally 100% allergy free. I can breathe! I am not stopped up. My head doesn't hurt. My skin doesn't itch. Ladies and gentlemen...you CAN heal your body through a raw organic diet. 

I've been cleansing for the purpose of healing, but I'm tempted to keep going. I'm not hungry. I don't feel deprived. And when I ask myself...Liz, are you excited about drinking creamed coffee again...I don't really know that I am or that I want to. Can I eat poorly without falling back into addictive sugar traps? I don't know yet. The answer to that question is different for everybody. But all I know is that RIGHT NOW...I feel better than I've felt in years. This is day 10. I started out saying I would do 5. And then a week. And then 10. I honestly don't want to stop.

With ALL that said....We must not forget that doing this is HARD. Especially for a beginner who has no real understanding of organic clean eating to begin with. I've been learning this lifestyle for 3 yrs now. This is why I suggest educating yourself before taking something like this on. For a list of great documentaries to watch...click HERE.

If you do not understand the importance of what you are doing on a deep level, then you will be FAR less likely to adhere to healthy living and eating. 
Do NOT do this because it's a fad or because you want a quick fix. You will fail if you do it for this reason. Just keepin it real. I see it too often. I was so glad my husband made me do a week of my own research before beginning a juice feast after watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.

You also need to find a network of support. People WILL turn their noses up at you. They will antagonize you and try to make you feel silly. Stand strong in your decision to care for your body. It is a GOOD thing to take care of yourself!!!! God gave you the vessel you have. He wants you to care for it. I'll save the spiritual side of physical health for another entry.

For now...I want to give you practical ways to MAXIMIZE the detox portion of your cleanse which usually lasts the first 3 to 5 days. Implementing these things will help your body discard the toxins at a faster rate and they will help you cope with the challenges of detox.

So here are my 10 tips for MAXIMIZING Your Cleanse. 

1. JOURNAL
Keep a journal of your thoughts and experiences. One of the things that comes with cleansing is an emotional roller coaster ride. You will also have epiphanies that come with very clear thoughts. You need to write these things down. Write down how you feel, what you think, and write down the changes you experience.

2. WARM LEMON WATER
Upon waking, the first thing you should do is have 8 oz of warm water with lemon. This helps stimulate your liver. Your liver is the primary storage house for toxins. 

3. DRINK HERBAL TEAS
Drinking tea throughout the day can help curb your appetite and promote healing and cleansing. Make sure they are CAFFEINE FREE. Here are the best for cleansing

2. Peppermint: aids in digestion

3. Chamomile: helps in relaxing. Lavender Chamomile by Traditional Medicinals is by absolute favorite. 

4. Green Tea: Packed with Antioxidants!


4. SCHEDULE A MASSAGE ON DAY 3.
This is usually the hardest day. You could use a massage to help you relax. Massage also helps rid your body of toxins.

5. GENTLE YOGA
Get in on a couple of these classes. But do NOT go to Hot Yoga or some crazy intense one. OK?!

6. No DEODERANTS, LOTIONS, FACE MAKE UP, HAIR PRODUCT, OR OTHER TOXIC BEAUTY PRODUCT. 

These are filled with aluminums, parabens, phtahlates, and other toxins we are trying to get OUT. 
Yes your armpits will smell bad for a few days. Use a wipe every now and then. You gotta take this seriously if you want maximum results. 
Yes you can wash your hair.

7. SLEEP. 8-9 hrs. 
Just DO IT. Your body can't heal without it. If you are like me and get wired during your cleanse....use melatonin if you must.


8. WATCH A DOCUMENTARY A DAY. 
Do this instead of watching your favorite TV show at night. I promise these will be far more intriguing than anything your watching on crappy television. AND they will probably change your life. Watch it with a loved one. It will help get them on board. Bribe them with you know what if you must. ;)

9. EPSOM SALT BATHS
Take these at night before bed. They help draw out toxins. But drink water while you are bathing. For ultimate relaxation...add a few drops of lavender oil. 

10. ENEMAS
Ok. Yes. This sounds disgusting and horrible. But I said maximize your cleanse didn't I?
As your body dumps toxins, your colon may get backed up with toxic sludge. If you happen to be one of those people who gets constipated, then that means you're REALLY toxic. Use an enema the first few days at night time. It will clear out your colon. These are safe. I'm not telling you to use them every day for the rest of your life. I'm telling you that if you get constipated, use these. DO NOT USE A LAXATIVE!!!!!!!!!!
