JUICING/RAW CLEANSE DIET FOR THE HEALTHY ACTIVE INDIVIDUAL

First of all, I want to say WOW!!! I have had somewhere between 15 and 20 people let me know that they have either begun juicing or are in the learning process of juicing. It's been so exciting to hear how well some of you guys are doing with the juice and to see your results as well.

I am getting a lot of personal emails and questions from different people who have different needs. Some of you have weight to lose. Some of you have specific healing needs. Some of you want to start juicing for your children. And some of you are athletes who want to know how to both exercise and cleanse.

Everyone's needs are different and therefore everyone should cleanse differently. Your body will know what healing needs to be done once it has detoxed and can focus it's energy on your body's real needs. For some of you who are either really overweight or really sick, you will probably need to straight up juice for a minimum of 10 days. Fat cells are a storage house for toxins. You need to let those fat cells go before you can expect a whole lot else, like allergy relief for example. Your detox will be far more intense than someone who is thin, fit, and mostly healthy. Everyone needs to be aware of what your needs are. Be honest with yourself and make a very strategic game plan for a personalized healing journey. I want to help everyone with personal experiences. I've decided to spend the next few days listing different healing plans that target the questions I've been getting the most. I hope it will help answer your questions. If you post them here on my blog or publicly on facebook then we can all get in on the conversation and help each other out.

Today I have copied and pasted an email I sent to a friend who is an athlete and runner. He would like to cleanse but wants to maintain at least some level of exercise. He is generally already healthy and doesn't have a weight issue. Many of you fall into this category and are asking similar questions. You want a low level healing and detox or a rejuvenation. You may have allergies or be tired or have IBS or something of that nature. You may want to break a sugar or caffeine habit. Whatever it may be, I have listed a specific daily cleansing plan for you.

I fall into this category. I did not full on juice because I am already mostly healthy and I exercise regularly. I needed a jumpstart. My body detoxed great under these conditions. If you are an athlete, very active, or exercise regularly and need more calories, this will be a great plan for you.

HERE IT IS!!!

JUICING/RAW CLEANSE DIET FOR THE MOSTLY HEALTHY ACTIVE INDIVIDUAL

Remember that you should probably take at least 3 days off from exercise because you need to detox. Once you start feeling good is when you should begin exercising again.

Wake up and have warm water or tea with lemon. Sip on it while you make your juice.

I make 32 oz at a time. You should make as much as your container will hold. Put EVERYTHING in it.

6 carrots, 4 stalks of kale, 2 apples, 2 oranges, 1" ginger, 4 cups spinach, some parsley, 1 small beet. 2 stalks of celery, and then I squirt lemon juice in at the end. I take all the pulp from the juice and push it back through.

This is the juice pulp. I pack it in balls and push it back through.

This makes exactly 32 oz in my juicer.

Drink this until at least noon. Your digestive system is most responsive in the morning because it is coming off a fast from sleeping. It's ready to assimilate all that nutrition.

For lunch and dinner you should have an ENORMOUS salad. Including:

Whatever organic lettuce you want as long as it's not iceberg. I like getting the fresh herb mix because it has cilantro and parsley in it which are great detoxers.
Cucumber
Sweet bell peppers of all color
red onion
1/2 avacodo
Walnuts
Cold Pressed Flax oil
Chia seed
Season with Turmeric spice. Great for inflammation!

With lunch you should have a slice of rye bread. For whatever reason, it doesn't impede your digestive system

With dinner, have a sweet potato with a little cinamon

If you find that you are REALLY hungry...include a vegan protein shake after your run but ONLY if it's afternoon. You shouldn't have anything but juice in the am. Also, mix it with water...not milk even if it's almond or soy.

Otherwise just drink this shake between lunch and dinner for a snack.

Drink LOTS of dandelion root tea. You can also have mint tea, chammomile, and decaf green.

Here is my homemade "sports drink" that includes apple cider vinegar. I drink this to satisfy cravings.

4 oz. organic grape juice (you can choose others)

8 oz. purified water

2 TBS Braggs Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

3 drops liquid stevia.

Try to have your last meal at 7pm so you have plenty of time to digest all everything so you can be empty in the am when you start juicing again

Remeber that everything should be organic if possible.

Cook NOTHING!

And most important...do NOT try to calorie count. Eat and drink at the first feeling of hunger and eat or drink until you are full. This is to heal...your body can never have too many raw fruits and veggies!!!!

  1. For how many days should a Mostly Healthy person do this? 10? That seems like a very long time...

  2. Well, it depends on what you mean by mostly healthy. :) It's personal to everyone's individual needs. Doing an extended juice feast is more for the purpose of deep healing. But having fresh juice every morning for the maintenance of general health is fantastic.
I did half a day of juice and half a day of raw food for a month. I only intended 5 days, but felt so fantastic that I saw no reason to stop!
I have a post on Juicing for the Health Person/athlete. You should check it out!
No matter what you choose though....it is FANTASTIC to make juicing a part of your life!

  3. Oh and I just realized that you commented on the post I was recommending. LOL.
So...if you follow this then I bet you'll do and feel GREAT. I ran 5 miles a day with NO problem. I just had to get through the initial detox which lasted about a week.
