Juicing for a Jumpstart

Oh my word, it's been a long time since I've blogged! I've been in a black hole studying for my NASM exam and I've been watching multiple children during the day. There's no time to blog! But with my exam behind me, I have a little extra time on my hands.

Now that test stress is over, and I've got an open road ahead of me, I've found this week to be the perfect time for a Juicing Jumpstart. Stress can do horrible things to your body and wreaks havoc on your immune system, which I've experienced first hand lately. I feel run down and worn out right now. The first time I juiced, it was more of a full blown detox, but the results were astounding. It was soon after Christmas break, and It was a 15 day process for me, in which only the middle 5 were pure juice. The front and back 5 were just raw foods.

Let me TELL you that I was radiant with health. I lost a good bit of weight, weight I felt was mostly just toxic weight. But weight loss wasn't my primary reason for juicing. I just wanted a superior form a nutrition delivered to every cell of my body and I wanted to feel recharged. It was also a great time to practice discipline and to spend lots of time in prayer. When my emotions took hold, food wasn't there to turn to. I turned to my Lord and shared a lot with my husband. It was even a great time for our marriage.

I actually kept most of that weight off which really surprised me, but I think it's just what my body needed to drop what it was holding onto. Since then, I'll juice for 1 to 3 days if I'm feeling sluggish or overloaded. This week however, I'm going kinda hard core again. But this time, I'm only juicing until the afternoon and then eating raw fruits and veggies the second half of the day. I feel this is totally sufficient for me. I'm super excited!

This is the juicer I have. It's a Breville Juice Fountain.

Here you see Kale, Spinach, Parsley, Sunflower greens, Carrots, Oranges, Apples, Beets, and Ginger. Because i'm lazy ;), I just squirt lemon juice in. This will last me half the day.

I'm about to have 6 kiddos in my house, so I gotta run. I'll educate more on juicing and share my journey and my results throughout the week!

  1. Liz, I've really been curious about a juice cleanse. I'd love any tips you can give me.

  2. I'm pretty ignorant about juicing, so this may seem like a dumb question: do you peel everything before it goes into the juicer or do you throw it all in skin, peel, seeds and all?

  3. Alicia, I'll be making lots of updates and sharing info. They will be at random times because I'm trying to keep up with a houseful of kids during the day. So, stay posted.
As far as how to put the fruit in your juicer, it depends on which kind you have. It usually comes with a manual that tells you handle various fruits and veggies. I leave the skin on everything except oranges. I cut up the apples before tossing them. Some juicers collect pulp and others pulverize it or leave it in. Pulp makes me kind of gag, so I opted out. :)

  4. Heather, I don't know if you still deal with allergies, but this could be a GREAT option for trying to heal some of those issues. It's worth a try.

  5. I leave the skin on everything also I use all except for the peel on pineapple, organges and grapefruits. I use the celery leaves and green carrot tops which makes my juice green and yummy.
