Have you heard the latest about chocolate milk? Apparently it's the newest and greatest post recovery workout drink. For more info follow link below.
Not to be a party pooper or anything, but I'm not the biggest fan of dairy. Besides the fact that the jug in your fridge is most likely packed with hormones, antibiotics, and other endocrine disruptors (things that give your 3 yr old breasts), it can be hard on your digestive system and it can give you unwanted side effects like acne, bloating, and lethargy. Oh and it may be making your kids go nuts. Take your hyper kid off of dairy for one week and I guarantee you'll see a dramatic difference.
By they way...there is a huge difference between being hyper and being energetic. I'm sure we'll go there another day. :)
Anyway, if you love a cold tall class of milk and refuse to give it up...go organic and you can avoid most of the harmful stuff. If your body digests it well then kudos to you. I'm jealous.
If you aren't down with the cow's milk like myself then chocolate coconut milk is an amazing alternative that I have fallen in love with recently and I have a glass every morning immediately post workout. It is DELICIOUS!!!
What's so great about it?
Coconut Milk is high in Vit D and calcium and it contains 65% MCFAs.
What are MCFAs? Medium Chain Fatty Acids are healthy fats that are not readily stored but rather used as energy in the body. This is an unique advantage of coconut milk as healthy fats are essential to a balanced diet.
Can I get an AMEN!

Make the coconut your new best friend.
Below is my daily superfood protein shake and it makes me feel alive and it makes me feel awesome. Just ask my husband about how I dance around the kitchen ready to conquer the world after the following shake. ;)
* 1 c SO Delicious Chocolate Coconut Milk (100 cal)
-You can do a 4 oz coconut milk and 4 oz water if you want to save on calories or make it less rich
* 1 scoop Garden of life RAW Organic Protein formula (80 cal)
-I use this instead of whey or soy protein because many of them have added hormones. By body despises a hormonal imbalance. How about yours?
*1 scoop Garden of Life RAW Organic Green Super Food (25 cal)
HAVE GREENS EVERY DAY DARNIT! JUST DO IT!!! This is my favorite. I love the taste of greens, but that probably comes from my inner tree hugger. If you hate the taste...blending it is your best bet. Just think of it like wine. It's an acquired taste and it's WORTH IT!
*1 rounded teaspoon AllMax 100% pure Japanese Micronized Glutamine Powder
-This helps with muscle recovery and reduces post exercise soreness. I kind of love it.
*1 teaspoon powdered probiotic. I love New Chapter, but I ran out yesterday so I have no picture.
If you are not taking a probiotic...start TODAY. This is one of the most important things that you can do for your health. A healthy gut will ward off a lifetime of disease and illness and it will prevent aging from all those blasted toxins.
*Shake and pour over ice or blend with ice for a smoothie. If you want a frappaccino taste then add a little instant coffee to the blender.
Total Calories: 205
SIDE NOTE:
Hey, all you LUFCers...this shake is about 200 calories less than the "LIZ" I shared with you at the gym unbeknownst to me at the time that it had so many calories. Sorry about that! That's why it's good to always make your own food because then you know what's in it. ;)
This fills me up enough to not binge on breakfast, which I usually eat 30 mins to an hour later after I've prepared breakfast for my family. It also gives your body enough time to absorb all of those nutrients before you mix it with other foods.
Alright that is my first nutrition tip for you all. Eat foods that nourish the only body you will ever have. The better choices you make while you are young the less catching up or backpedaling you'll have to do later on. Love your future self because they are probably way cooler than your present one. ;) Jk.
Cheers! Enjoy a healthy superfoods shake! I'd love to hear about the ones you like to make.
PS. all of the above ingredients can be substituted with other brands of course and if you hate chocolate cause you're demented then either use regular coconut milk or vanilla almond milk.
Stay Tuned! I'll have a workout for you tomorrow.
And next week, we will be discussing all things detox. It's a good place to start when you're looking for a clean slate. I'm an expert in this matter.
Glad I'm not the only "crazy" one obsessed with coconut everything. :) I switched over to coconut oil a while back and I love it! (I feel much better about making brownies now and then. lol) And I just started using coconut milk in my shakes last month.
