Because SuperFoods by definition are those which are nutrient dense and because we find that most of our superfoods are grown from the earth...not in a lab, we must become familiar with the foods that are "IN SEASON." I believe a superfood can really only be super if it is organic because being drenched in pesticides or being genetically altered in any fashion is not very super at all.
Therefore, you can really only find nutrient dense, organic foods when they are in season...unless you purchase them frozen. For example, organic blueberries are not in abundance because they grow in the summer. I have to get mine frozen now if I want them. Yes....you can find them, but they are more expensive. And YES....you can find non organic superfoods, but just don't do it. If a fruit or vegetable is high on the pesticide list just leave it be. I believe it's almost better not to eat an apple than to eat one with poison on it. What's the point?!
For a refresher on the dirty dozen...here's a cheat sheet

So! As we begin incorporating superfoods into our lives and start cooking with them and making meals out of them, I think we need to look at the SUPERFOODS OF THE FALL SEASON.
I will not list them all...just a few at a time. I think that each week we should challenge ourselves to make at least 2 dinners for our families or selves that incorporate SuperFallFoods. Let's share ideas and recipes with each other. I actually got this idea when my friend Sarah mentioned pumpkin puree...so thank you, Sarah!
I think this will be a great step for us all to begin discovering foods we may otherwise overlook and then become familiar with them being in our homes, in our meals, and in our bodies. Preparing 2 meals a week is a good place to start. So this weekend, pick out a few recipes involving fall foods and get all excited about preparing them this coming week for your fam.
PS. For those of you who do not know...I have a facebook page that is linked directly to my blog. It's called MY FIT LIST and if you "like" it, you'll get regular updates and it will be easier to post organized conversation because I know a lot of you have had trouble posting comments on my blog for whatever reason.
Ok. Moving on.
